International healthcare dentistry needs research

An expatriate should undertake extensive research before going for dental treatment in a foreign country, claims the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD).
Tif Qureshi, BACD board member and cosmetic dentist, advises an expatriate to speak to their potential dentist's previous patients or even see some of them to make sure they are getting the best possible treatment.
"You've got to be fairly happy to do some research and make sure that whoever you're going to see has a good portfolio of cases that they've actually done," he said.
According to Mr Qureshi, foreign dentists are likely to be fine but its better to have examples of their previous work to be on the safe side.
"It's very important to go to the dentist's website, see how many veneer cases they've done – or any of the procedures they've done," he added.
A BACD survey revealed that 32 per cent of people said they are "concerned by the look of their teeth".
