International Healthcare News: Singapore 'is best place for Asian expatriates'

Singapore continues to be the best place to live for Asian expatriates, according to research undertaken by ECA International.

The management consultancy firm found that the island offers the most attractive living conditions to expatriates because of its overseas medical care, climate and leisure activities.

Good quality housing, records on personal safety and air quality also prompted residents to propel Singapore to the top of the Location Ratings poll.

"Singapore's high quality infrastructure and health facilities, combined with low health risks, air pollution, crime rates and a cosmopolitan population help make the city an easy place for Asian assignees to live in," ECA International's regional director for Asia Lee Quane commented.

The city-state also topped the poll last year in a survey of more than 400 locations worldwide.

"According to our latest Expatriate Salary Management Survey, over 70 per cent of companies will pay a location allowance when there is a need to compensate for the difficulties associated with adapting to a new living environment," added Mr Quane.

The quality of living analysis takes into account the home and destination country of expatriates thinking of moving abroad, and a number of factors including distance from home and differences in culture, language and climate are also considered, Mr Quane continued.

People thinking of moving to Singapore could consider taking out medical insurance to ensure they are covered for any health problems.
