Egyptian expatriates living in Dubai may be able to obtain or renew their national identity cards in the United Arab Emirates by the end of May, the Khaleej Times reports.

Egypt's assistant foreign minister for consular affairs and Egyptians abroad is expected to lead a mission to the UAE on May 25th to ask for expatriates to have access to facilities to renew their ID cards without returning to their home country.

"The mission's visit to the UAE is in line with the Egyptian government's keenness to keep in touch with the community abroad and solve their problems," Egyptian ambassador to the UAE Tamer Mansour told the paper.

"The mission is to include representatives from various state departments to meet the Egyptian community here, learn about their needs and solve any problem that may hinder their access to the services provided by the Egyptian bodies."

Legal expert Kamal Al Tamalawy told the paper that applicants must submit their birth certificate, original passport, expired ID card and two recent photographs in order to renew their card.
