International Healthcare News: Expats banned from some jobs in Oman

Expatriate medical insurance policyholders who are living in Oman might find their employment options have been curtailed after a government minister issued a ban on foreign workers in some sectors.
Emirates 24/7 reports that expats will no longer be allowed to seek work in certain areas and professions, such as in female beauty salons, motorcycle shops and places selling spare vehicle parts in the province, or wilaya, of Adam.
The ban was issued by labour minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nassir Al Bakri in a move to increase employment opportunities for resident Omanis.
Each region has restrictions on what work expatriate health insurance customers can be paid to do, so in Bahlaa province, expats are not allowed to own internet cafes, while in other parts of the sultanate, foreign workers cannot trade in clothing, footwear and home appliances.
Meanwhile, a temporary visa ban in Saudi Arabia means Gulf expatriates will be affected until February 2011.
"If you are not an Emirati, or a Qatari, Bahraini, Kuwaiti or Omani national, you will not be able to obtain a tourist visa to Saudi Arabia," Mohammed Faud, visa section operator at travel group Al Ansaw told Emirates 24/7.
