International Healthcare News: Expatriate calls for distribution of medicinal marijuana

An expat living in Cambodia has called on the government to allow a new type of healthcare medication - marijuana.
Ray Christl, originally from America, has announced plans for a rally this Saturday to call on health authorities to allow the distribution of the medical version of the drug, the Phnom Penh Post has revealed.
Mr Christl hopes to open a medical marijuana dispensary, modelled after the Californian system where patients can get licences to purchase and ingest the drug.
"This would be a dispensary where we would grow small amounts. We would get some simple immunity from the law," the expatriate told the paper.
Marijuana is currently illegal under Cambodian law but it is still obtainable. Speaking about cannabis openly is a different matter, the paper explained.
The medicinal value of cannabis is disputed but it is noted for its ability to stimulate hunger in chemotherapy and Aids patients and as a pain reliever.
Mr Christl's rally is set to take place at 12.30 local time in Wat Phnom.
