International Healthcare News: Expatriate artists in Korea 'explore culture clash in exhibitions'

Expatriate artists living in Korea have put their work up for public viewing in exhibitions which explore the culture clash.

Creatures of Habit offers work by 24 artists from seven countries and looks at how their adopted country has inspired and influenced their art. It is the second exhibition by the International Artists Community (IAC) and will showcase paintings, photos, installations and performance art at the Jay and Na Galleries in downtown Seoul.

"The theme of the exhibition is habits, therefore the whole format of the show is aimed at breaking away from the usual or habitual arrangement of an art show,' exhibition curator Richard Beaumont told the Korea Times.

It explores the habits that expats might have picked up after they relocated abroad and how the culture clash has affected their lifestyles, he added.

Another expatriate art show, Re-Spectacle, merges design techniques from the artists' home countries with the traditional methods used in Korean art, such as bojagi.

Both shows finish later in April, so expatriates in Korea who are interested in art could catch the exhibitions in Seoul.
