International Healthcare News: Bangladeshi expatriates 'will benefit from new labour branches'

Expatriates working in Bangladesh could have their welfare rights protected in a move by the country's government to invest in its foreign workforce.
The Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment are expected to open more new labour branches at Bangladesh's missions in Italy, Japan, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Jordan, Xinhua reported.
An anonymous official told the news provider that steps are underway to set up the branches, which aim to send expatriate workers to other countries to find work.
One such branch has just opened in Iraq, the news provider said.
Bangladesh is one of the world's leading workforce-exporting nations and has set up 13 labour branches at missions abroad to look after the welfare of its expatriates and to encourage them to send money home in the form of remittances through formal channels.
The announcement follows the release of figures by the Bangladesh Bank which showed nearly six million expats sent home more than US$9.19 billion in ten months of the current fiscal year.
