International Health Insurance News: Watch out for expat fixers
08/02/10 13:00
Although expats moving to another country may welcome a helping hand, they should be cautious about approaches from the locals, Shelter Offshore has warned.
In a recent article, the expat portal declared that while fixers often help to arrange documents and ease the moving process, there will come a time when even the most upstanding fixer's help becomes unwelcome.
"You'll reach a point where you no longer need them but will find them impossible to shake off. You are their life-blood or rather, your money is," warned the site.
Expats were also alerted to the risk that a fixer will come to hold considerable power over their clients due to their intimate knowledge of their financial situation.
In a separate article, Shelter Offshore reported that the recent overhaul to Spain's healthcare industry highlights the need for foreigners to obtain international health insurance when moving to a new country.
Responding to growing resentment about the strain that expats are placing on the regional healthcare system, Valencia's government has announced plans to rescind free healthcare for early retiree expats.
