International Health Insurance News: Living in Bulgaria 'not a holiday'

Those planning a move to Bulgaria in search of the idyllic portrait of the country painted by property programmes may be in for something of a shock, according to Quest Bulgaria.

In a recent article, the property magazine reported that many expats have left the country in recent months as they realised that they cannot support the lifestyle they had dreamed of without working.

"Some of the problems can be laid at the door of the huge number of TV programmes encouraging people to follow the dream. Those who didn't fall for the hype and came to Bulgaria for good reasons are those who have remained," the magazine claimed.

The key to a successful move, the article continued, will lie with the recognition that moving abroad will not be one long holiday and in the majority of cases, expats will need to work to support themselves.

In a separate article, the site has urged expats to remember that in Bulgaria the European Health Insurance Card may not provide as extensive access to free healthcare as is seen in their parent nation, which may make private expat health insurance a more secure option.ADNFCR-1788-ID-19644775-ADNFCR
