International Health Insurance News: Beirut 'becoming more popular'

Expatriate and traveller interest in the Lebanese capital of Beirut is becoming more apparent as fears over its safety decline, Travel The Unknown has stated.

Director of the company Rahul Aggarwal explained: "Beirut is the arrival point for most travellers visiting the country and many who do visit are amazed to see how cosmopolitan the city is," which is how it came to be known as the 'Paris of the East'.

Research by STR Global showed that new properties in Beirut are attracting expatriates and other travellers and are benefiting from a recent upswing in revenue per available room (RevPAR).

RevPAR for the year to June 2010 averaged £96.15, a significant increase compared with £25.39 for the same period in 2007.

Beirut has also witnessed political stability since the signing of the Doha Agreement in 2008 coupled with investment in the city's damaged infrastructure.

This, Mr Aggarwal believes, has helped Lebanon convince the international community, as well as expatriates and tourists, that it is safe enough to visit.
