Bahrain's Indian Club is preparing to showcase the racket skills of its local expatriate community in a new tournament, it has been reported.
According to Gulf Daily News, the social club is hosting the first Indian Expat Open; backed by sponsorship from supply chain group Bahrain Maritime & Mercantile International.
The championship is believed to feature five competition categories, including singles and doubles matches for men under 40 and veterans, as well as boys' under-18 singles.
More than 50 Indian expatriates have already signed up to take part, the newspaper quotes tournament coordinator Shyam Kannan as saying.
The tournament is said to be the first one of its kind for the emirate's 'desi' population. Mr Kannan noted: "We hope that it will encourage new members to participate in our tennis activities and provide our present tennis enthusiasts a venue to improve their game."
Earlier this year saw the Bahrain Tennis Federation announce it was to offer a new training camp for children of all nationalities aged six to 12.
