France and Spain top quality of life survey

New research rating European countries on their healthcare, potential for earnings and lifestyle has revealed France and Spain as the most desirable places to live.
Conducted by energy comparison site uSwitch, the report named the UK as the location where residents can enjoy the highest net income, but face a higher cost of living, long working hours and fewer holidays.
In addition to having one of the lowest retirement ages in Europe, France spends the most on healthcare, which may be the reason why it also has the longest life expectancy - with the average person living nearly 81 years.
Expatriate workers relocating to France may also find they have more free time, as employees benefit from an average of 34 days of holiday a year.
Scoring a little lower than its neighbour was Spain. Boasting more sunshine and holidays than any other European country - with workers offered a typical 41 days off a year - it also has the lowest fuel prices.
The recently published Human Development Report from the United Nations judged Norway to offer the best quality of life in the world, placing France and Spain at eight and 15 respectively out of a list of 182 nations.
