Foreign Office: Research local laws before travelling to the UAE

The Foreign Office has advised Britons to make themselves aware of local laws before they make trips to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to the department's latest British Behaviour Abroad report, it is in Middle-Eastern states where Britons are most likely to fall foul of the authorities.
"The report highlights just how many British nationals encounter difficulties whilst abroad," commented Foreign Office minister Chris Bryant.
Brits were proportionally more likely to have been arrested in the UAE than in any other country, the study showed, although most arrests were made in Spain (2,290).
Mr Bryant noted: "Researching the local laws and customs before you travel could avoid time in a foreign jail."
The minister also urged people to get comprehensive travel insurance before they leave.
As with expatriate health insurance, travel insurance can help protect travellers and expatriates from unexpected mishaps.
Owing to a shortage of finances, many Britons are opting to stay at home this year and enjoy a 'staycation' instead.
