Expats told: Do your homework

Expatriates looking to pick up cheap property in northern Cyprus have been advised to check the small print of their contracts.
The reminder follows a ruling in the European Court of Justice that agreed a former resident could claim back land now owned by an expatriate couple.
Cyprus was embroiled in a bitter war following the Turkish invasion of 1974 and many families then resident on the island were forced from their homes.
Some of the properties have subsequently been sold to unwitting expatriates looking for a place in the sun.
The Association of International Property Professionals (AIPP) has warned there are dangers when buying abroad if you have not done your research.
Chief executive Paul Owen told axiafx.com this case is an "extreme example", although he said it also acts as a reminder and potential buyers "really need to do your homework".
