Expats put their faith in specialist health insurance

British expatriates are increasingly opting to take out health insurance policies that cover them when they are living abroad, the Telegraph has reported.
The paper says having insurance in place for chronic or on going diseases is increasingly regarded as essential by expatriates.
Brits who remain at home can call on the National Health Service for help, but "expatriates are often denied such support", the publication noted.
Sales of medical insurance have risen recently in the UK and the paper explained "it is still viewed as essential by many".
According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), more than 7.3 million people in the UK had some sort of cover last year - up 2.7 per cent on 2007.
The ABI hopes to "help the industry enhance its customers' experiences by improving service and dealing with problems wherever it can", says its director general Stephen Haddrill.
