Expats get new routes from BA

British Airways (BA) has announced the creation of two new routes that will provide new opportunities for British expats living in Egypt and the Maldives.
The British flag-carrier has announced that it is re-launching the former GB Airways route from Gatwick to Sharm el Sheik in Egypt, while the company will fly to Male in the Maldives for the first time.
The move will provide a new opportunity for British expats in Egypt and those living in Male to obtain direct flights to and from the UK.
"We have been looking at the whole of our long-haul network at Gatwick and after some detailed research we felt that these two new routes to the Maldives and Sharm El Sheikh would prove popular," a spokesman for BA told the Times.
BA plans to begin the flights to both regions in October this year, aiming to catch the wave of Britons seeking time in the sun away from the UK winter.
Meanwhile, British expats who take long-haul trips to and from the UK have been warned the introduction of Air Passenger Duty could see them being financially penalised for taking long trips.
Recent research from the British Airline Pilots' Association has found 90 per cent of people leaving the UK heading to far-off destinations will instead choose a short-haul flight and change at Amsterdam to long-haul destinations to avoid the new duty.
