Expats gather for footy shirt auction
06/05/09 15:23
Expatriates living in Korea will soon be bidding to buy a Premier league football player's shirt.
An auction will be held to raise money for Korean charities as part of this year's British Association of Seoul (BASS) Queen's Birthday Ball.
Signed by Manchester United's Korean star Park Ji-sung, the number 13 shirt will go under the hammer along with a ball that boasts the signatures of the entire first team.
Treasurer of last year's celebrations and BASS president Ruth Attewell, told the Korea Times it raised "more than 160 million won, which is being donated to Korean charities".
This year, the association is hoping to raise money to help the construction of a home for severely handicapped young people, a day care centre and accommodation for disabled people in open employment.
Transitions Abroad, a resource for expatriates living in Korea, notes work for expatriates teaching English is easy to find because the country "increasingly looks to the West as its paradigm for prosperity".
