Expats fight for their Australian visas

British expatriates living in Australia are part of a campaign to have more than 8,000 people granted a permanent visa, the Telegraph reports.
Currently many of the expatriate Brits hold temporary residency visas, which until only May this year had restricted the number of hours per week they could work.
Australia demands that all expatriates are covered by international health insurance and without it they are not allowed to even enter the country.
Recently expatriates have seen their premiums rise because in Australia visitors' medical cover is no longer considered to be health insurance, reports the Telegraph. Instead it is classed as "health-related insurance" and is no longer protected.
In 2007, the New Zealand state services minister Annette King announced that the governments of New Zealand and Australia would not work together to regulate medications and therapeutic goods.
