Expatriates 'need' their private health cover

British expatriates living abroad rely on their private health insurance especially when local services fail to provide the NHS standards they were used to, say investment experts Shelter Offshore.
The firm explained that it is no surprise the expatriate policies are held in such high regard, as even Brits at home are turning to private cover.
Figures from the Association of British Insurers confirm the move to private cover and according to Shelter Offshore, expatriates especially need to be covered when they return to the UK.
Expatriates should ensure they are covered in their new country and "if possible they need to make sure that they are paying for a policy that will cover them if they travel elsewhere abroad, or even if they move to another nation", the financial investment firm notes.
The NHS does protect visiting expatriates through its emergency services, but it is unclear whether it will help Brits living abroad who return for longer-term care.
