Expatriates need more than EHIC cover

The cover provided by the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is not even sufficient for backpackers and travellers, a report by MoneyWeek has found, so it is unlikely then to be good enough for expatriates.
According to the magazine, EHIC holders are entitled to reduced price treatment - but only at the same level provided to locals of the country they are visiting.
Regular travellers could consider opting for specialised multi-trip insurance cover, but again these are not suitable for Brits who are making their home abroad.
The recent outbreak of swine flu has highlighted the need for having international medical insurance when moving or living abroad.
According to the Telegraph: "If services were overwhelmed a good medical international insurer could prove a life saver."
Living abroad for many is the perfect antidote to the UK's way of life.
CJ and Jim Brough who moved to France told Living Abroad magazine: "We work as if we are in London, but we overlook the Med and we are two minutes from the beach."
