Expatriates in Spain launch political party

British expatriates living in Spain are hoping to achieve success at the European elections with a new political party, the Telegraph reports.
The Centro Democratico Liberal (CDL) aims to give voters an alternative to the government and its opposition, the Popular Party.
CDL is standing on an anti-corruption ticket and wants to appeal to expatriates disgruntled with the country's current planning laws.
Jacqueline Cotterill, a 49-year-old Brit, is standing for office after already winning the seat of deputy mayor in a small town near the popular Benidiorm resort.
Ms Cotterill told the Telegraph: "The mainstream Spanish political parties haven't taken much notice of European residents here but we are a resource, we pay taxes and yet we have had no political representation until now."
The new party is committed to "upholding the rights of European citizens," which the deputy mayor says are not currently supported.
British expatriates can vote in the UK parliamentary elections as long as they are first registered to do so before they move abroad.
