Expatriates 'are feeling the rising cost of Kuwaiti living'

Expatriates living in Kuwait are noticing the increasing cost of food and its affect on their living expenses.

Khaled Aljenfawi wrote in the Arab Times Online that expatriates are finding it increasingly difficult as they cannot claim government funding or buy subsidised food.

Rejecting some of the negative perceptions towards expatriates, he said they are "honest and hard working" and that they are sometimes wrongly blamed for national failings.

"Expatriates working and living in Kuwait deserve a better treatment than what they are receiving these days," he said.

Kuwait has a number of expatriate groups and societies which can help families of recent arrivals familiarise themselves to their new environment.

The British Ladies Society holds regular coffee mornings and helps introduce new members to Kuwaiti customs and culture.

International health insurance is available in locations across the Middle East and provides specialist cover for those living and working in a new country.
