
Expatriate population growing in UAE

New research has reportedly revealed that numbers of expatriate workers living in the UAE are increasing rapidly.
According to Gulf News, two major studies conducted in the UAE found that its population currently stands at around six million.
The newspaper claims that the government figures indicate the expat community is growing, with Indian workers making up the largest proportion.
Roughly 1.75 million people hailing from the country are said to be currently living in the UAE.
The second largest group is from Pakistan with 1.25 million, followed by Bangladesh with 500,000.
The news service states that expats from other Asian countries, including China, the Philippines and Thailand, make up around one-sixth of the total population.
A recent report from Emirates Business found that Japanese firms based in the UAE are defying the economic downturn and continuing to hire.
The publication spoke to Ian Giulianotti, associate director at recruitment consultancy Nadia Middle East, who said the manufacturing and petrochemicals sectors are experiencing the most recruitment activity.
