Expatriate insurance news: Vienna tops quality of living survey
26/05/10 19:08
A new survey addressing quality of living has found Vienna to be the best city in which to reside.
The research, conducted by Mercer, found the Austrian city to have the highest score on its quality of living index, while the Swiss cities of Zurich and Geneva also made the top three.
Baghdad came bottom of the list of 221 global cities.
Slagin Parakatil, senior researcher at Mercer, said that as the world economy becomes more globalised, areas beyond the traditional financial centres are emerging as attractive places for businesses to operate.
"Cities in many emerging markets, such as in the Middle East or Asia, have seen a significant influx of foreign companies and their expatriate employees in recent years," he said.
He added that this year's index has been adjusted to provide employers with a clearer picture of the cities that are now emerging as popular business destinations, to help ensure that expatriates are compensated properly for their work.
