Expatriate buyers look to Turkey for property bargains

Britons looking to buy property abroad are increasingly turning their attention to Turkey.
According to overseas mortgage credit firm Conti, applications for property in the country during April and May of this year have increased by 143 per cent, compared with corresponding months last year.
Overseas property expert Atlas International says it believes Turkey has taken over as the dominant overseas property market.
James Dearsley, European sales manager at Atlas International, explained: "We have certainly found in the last year or so that the ability to buy in sterling has really helped the Turkish property market."
Mr Dearsley also noted that the country is becoming more popular for retirees, a development he says was helped by the increasing popularity of Turkey as a tourist destination.
British expatriates living in northern Cyprus enjoy many of the same cultural holidays and celebrations as expats do in Turkey.
