
Expatriate Medical Insurance News: Expat jailed for impersonating famous plastic surgeon

An expatriate plastic surgeon is facing a two-month jail sentence after a Dubai court convicted him of impersonating another healthcare professional.
Gulf News reports that the expatriate, named by the Telegraph as Steven Moos, was found guilty of pretending to be American plastic surgeon Dr Steven Hopping, who has performed cosmetic procedures on Hollywood stars.
Mr Moos was wanted by the FBI and Interpol and had previously been banned from practising medicine in America.
Dubai police that he had been performing surgery on his kitchen table and his actions allegedly led to the disfigurement of two women.
Mr Moos received one month in jail for unlawfully practising medicine and impersonating Dr Hopping, and another month for performing healthcare procedures without obtaining permission from the Ministry of Health or adhering to the required conditions.
Judge Jamal Mohammad Jubaily also found him guilty of forging a labour card from the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital in Dubai Healthcare City and said the expatriate will be deported after he has served his sentence.
