Expatriate Insurance News: Workers in Oman 'get visa extension'

Expatriate workers who stay in Oman beyond the date of their legal paperwork could get an extra two months' reprieve after the government indicated it will extend the deadline.
Overstaying expats in January were given until May 31st to complete all their paperwork and leave Oman without incurring fines, or to regularise their status with the Manpower Ministry, Express India reported.
But a senior official at the ministry told Gulf News: "We have had requests from diplomatic missions to give further extension for the partial amnesty and a formal announcement to this effect will be made [soon]."
Manpower minister Shaikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Bakri said his department has already transferred sponsorship of 27,000 expatriate workers between companies in the last four months, highlighting that the number of licensed foreign workers in Oman reached 163,000.
The minister has recently called on companies to reduce their reliance on expatriate workers, outlining proposals to increase technical education and vocational training in the country's population.
