Expatriate Insurance News: Turkey 'becoming more popular'
05/08/10 17:30
An increase in the number of prospective expatriates visiting Turkey could be behind a recent rise in the number of flights to the country, according to the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office.
Irfan Onal, director of the UK branch of the office, commented that would-be expats and other visitors are drawn to Turkey's capital.
"Istanbul has become a great city break destination due to its combination of culture, food and nightlife and has the added bonus this year of being the 2010 European Capital of Culture," he stated.
Mr Onal recommended that expatriate health insurance policyholders and other international tourists should venture to Cappadocia, which is popular because of its array of activities to take part in.
These include horse riding, trying out a balloon ride at dawn and exploring the numerous ancient churches built in caves.
Figures released by ACI Europe show passenger traffic at Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen International airport increased by 93.9 per cent between January and June this year, compared with the same period in 2009.
