Expatriate Insurance News: New organisation for Canadian expats

09/06/10 13:36

Canadian expatriates are to be offered access to a new networking system offering education, expatriate healthcare advice and governmental advocacy support to help them live overseas.

Set up by a group of expats, ExpatCanada is a not-for-profit organisation designed to offer help and guidance to Canadians and their families living and working abroad. It will also help to improve the overseas performances of Canadian businesses and their expatriate employees.

The organisation's president Peter Allard said Canadian expats are the frontline foreign ambassadors for Canada.

Allan Nichols, head of the Canadian Expat Association, which is working in partnership with the new initiative, agreed.

"We believe expats can bring far more benefits to their host countries than they do now, and provide valuable insights on what is actually occurring overseas and how it affects Canadians," he said.

Canada's expatriate population of 2.8 million accounts for eight per cent of the country's total population, one of the highest proportions in the world.
