A low-cost airline has announced flights between Lucknow and Dubai will commence from June 2nd to tap into the "huge" expatriate market.

Flydubai, the budget airline, will operate flights to Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh province in India, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, leaving Dubai at 8.30pm local time and arriving at 01.50am. Return flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays departing at 02.35am local time.

CEO of Flydubai, Ghaith Al Ghaith, commented: "India represents an important market for Flydubai and we are delighted that the cooperation between Flydubai and the Indian authorities has resulted in the opportunity for Dubai's first low-cost airline to bring our service to Lucknow."

He noted that an estimated five million Indian expatriates live and work in the Gulf region, with one million in the UAE alone.

"This represents a huge number of people who need to travel between our two nations and we look forward to complementing the services offered by the existing carriers on the Dubai-India routes," he added.

Lucknow is the second-largest city in north, east and central India after Delhi and is one of the country's top ten fastest-growing cities.
