Expatriate Insurance News: Luxury travellers 'less likely' to take health precautions
20/05/11 18:13
Expatriates might want to check up on their worldwide health insurance plans and their vaccinations as it has been suggested that luxury travellers often fail to take the necessary precautions when heading abroad.
Dr Tom Brett, lead general practitioner for Lloydspharmacy Online Doctor, said that around 60 per cent of people are concerned about getting ill when they travel, "but not everybody does anything about it".
The doctor noted that vaccinations will prevent a lot of illnesses and are especially important for people heading further afield.
However, he added: "The people that are at greater risk are the people that go to the five star resorts, or the beach resorts, or the main tourist areas in the higher risk countries, because they're the people that think that this is a tourist area, or a five star hotel, I will be fine.
"When in fact, the places like that often are just as high a risk, if not a higher risk, than going off the beaten track."
Organising overseas health insurance will at least give you the peace of mind to know that you will have medical assistance if problems occur.
