Expatriate Insurance News: Japanese TV show 'attracts following in Saudi Arabia'

Expatriates living in Saudi Arabia may have heard of a special Japanese TV series that is attracting attention because of its moral content and law-abiding citizens.
The series, called Khwater-Kaizen (which means thoughts and improvement in Japanese), portrays Japanese people following signals at crossroads, cleaning up after their pets and schoolchildren cleaning their classroom , the Mainichi Daily News reported.
The 30-episode series is attracting disbelief from Saudi nationals, who routinely flout traffic signals and litter the streets, the newspaper said.
A Japanese expat in Riyadh told the paper: "Saudi Arabia looks at Japan as a country that has realised modernisation while keeping its traditions. It sees Japan as a model of achieving developments other than Europe and the United States."
Saudi Arabia derives the majority of its revenue from oil production, but finds it difficult to fund public services in times of low oil prices.
Some believe the country should look to the West for ideas in modernisation and employment prospects, as it has a high proportion of young people who need education and jobs.
