Expatriate Insurance News: Israeli govt 'to halt brain drain with research centres'

The Israeli government has unveiled plans to entice leading scientists back to the country in an effort to stop the 'brain drain'.
On Sunday March 14th the cabinet approved proposals worth $350 million (£230 million) to build 30 academic excellence centres at universities in order to bring back expatriate researchers that have made significant contributions in various fields.
The first centres to open would be associated with economics and computer science, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported a source close to the Council for Higher Education as saying.
The council's chair of the planning and budget committee Professor Manuel Trajtenberg designed the centres of excellence programme and told the paper that between 1,000 and 3,000 Israeli scientists are currently living as expatriates abroad.
"We didn't want to just stem a leak, but to propose a plan that could raise the bar of scientific research and at the same time bring back Israeli scientists - not individually but collectively - to be integrated at these centres and consequently the universities," the professor said.
Israel's expatriate healthcare is seen as top rate but medical insurance is advised for those living in the country.
