Expatriate Insurance News: Expats arrested on drug charges
05/07/10 19:21
Two expatriates working in Kuwait City have been arrested for selling drugs used to treat impotency.
The Egyptian pair were found with nearly 8,000 pills of a drug called Strawberry after selling it in Farwaniya and Hawalli zones, the Arab Times reported.
Following a tip-off, security officials from the Drugs Control General Department set up an undercover sting by luring one of the expats into selling 100 narcotic pills for KD 150 (£340).
The expat was arrested during the delivery before police discovered another 500 pills in his accommodation.
Security officials then asked the expatriate who he worked for and a second Egyptian man was arrested when the first asked him to deliver more Strawberry pills.
Police found more than 7,000 pills in the second man's flat, which he admitted smuggling in from his home country. Both suspects were passed over to authorities for legal action, the newspaper reported.
People convicted of possessing, using or trafficking illegal drugs can face severe penalties under Kuwaiti law, such as long jail sentences and heavy fines.
