Expatriate Insurance News: Expat 'pleads guilty to indecent assault charges'

An expatriate has been put behind bars for indecently assaulting a five-year-old girl in Hong Kong.

Nigel Russell Harris, originally from the UK, was handed an 18-month jail sentence on Wednesday (April 28th) after pleading guilty to two charges of indecent assault on the Chinese girl during English lessons.

The attacks took place at his flat last September and the expatriate was arrested after the girl refused to go to her English classes and told her mother that Mr Harris molested her.

Hong Kong's district court heard how the girl's grandmother used to take her to the expat's house twice a week, where he would teach the child in a locked computer room while her grandmother waited outside.

The judge ordered Mr Harris to receive psychological treatment during his incarceration.

Hong Kong is popular with British expatriates, with recent research revealing that expats earn on average 19 per cent more in the former colony than they would back in the UK.
