Expatriate Insurance News: Expat doctors 'threaten strike' in Zimbabwe

Expatriate healthcare workers in Zimbabwe are threatening to strike over unpaid salaries and poor accommodation.
Cuban expat doctors working at the Masvingo General Hospital told The Zimbabwean that they are "living like beggars" either because their monthly salaries are not paid or come three months later.
The hospital has capacity for nine doctors but currently employs two Cuban expatriates and a Zimbabwean doctor, the publication reported.
The Cuban doctors told the paper that they were being treated like outcasts.
"They [the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare] should realise our importance. We are serving the people of Zimbabwe under extremely bad conditions. Our status as doctors should be addressed as a matter of urgency."
Gerald Gwinji, permanent secretary to the ministry, told the news provider that the healthcare staff are not being paid as expatriate personnel because they're contract is between the two governments.
He admitted that the departure of the two expat doctors would leave the hospital understaffed.
