Expatriate Insurance News: Conservatives go in search of expat vote

08/03/10 11:56

The Conservative Party has reminded British expats that they are entitled to vote in the next general election in the UK.

Party estimates suggest that at least 2.5 million people living abroad are able to vote in the forthcoming UK general election.

While no date has been set, a number of commentators have suggested that May 6th - the date of local elections in the country - will be used for the general election as well.

Chairman of the Conservatives Eric Pickles said: "So many of the laws passed in the UK affect the lives of British citizens living overseas."

He added that by taking the time to register and vote, expats will be able to have a say on the policies that may shape their future.

Expats who are interested in registering to vote are urged to do so soon, as processing the forms can take some time - of which there is increasingly little before the general election must take place.
