24/08/11 15:57
Expatriate international health insurance customers looking to bulk up have been informed of the benefits of using whey protein as part of their exercise and diet routine.
According to Dan West, lead student on a new research paper into the product, it has a high essential amino acid content which makes it ideal for those trying to build muscles.
"Whey is digested rapidly such that its amino acids appear rapidly in the blood, which acts as a signal to stimulate muscle building," he added.
Mr West, who works in the lab of Dr Stuart Phillips - lead author of the study and the kinesiology professor at McMaster University - explained whey protein can have benefits for people of all ages.
Older individuals may find taking a dose of the product can provide advantages after they have had a workout, he claimed.
Partners including RMIT University, the Australian Institute of Sport and Nestle Research Centre were among those to have been involved in the publication of the new study.
