Expatriate Healthcare News: Travellers 'look for economically stable destinations'

The economic insecurities of particular countries have deterred travellers' interest in visiting them, according to an expert.

Jack Fraser, group chief operating officer at Travelzest, commented that there has been a shift in consumer interest away from destinations such as Greece and Thailand, while expatriates and other visitors have been showing more interest in other, more socio-economically secure areas.

"The Philippines has certainly benefited from the unrest in Thailand", he noted, adding that destinations such as the USA, Bali and Malaysia are also showing "signs of increased consumer interest".

Expatriates and other international visitors have been moving towards unique and more authentic experiences, Mr Fraser explained, such as swimming with whale sharks.

His comments come after research from Greenlight and IATA showed that holidaymakers are looking for long-haul destinations to take a special trip. Figures released by Greenlight last month revealed that searches for short-haul flights from the UK dropped from 64 per cent of total flight searches to 38 per cent in March.
