A Sri Lankan expatriate living in Qatar has donated Rs. 310,150 (£1,750) to a charity that looks after the welfare of war heroes, the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence has announced.
Artist Janaka Kulasekara made the donation to the Api Wenuven Api fund after putting on a painting exhibition in February and collecting funds.
His art work was displayed in the Sri Lankan embassy in Qatar for two days and received widespread support from the country's ambassador and Sri Lankan expatriate students living in Qatar.
It is not the first time the expatriate artist has donated to the war heroes cause - in September last year he presented a cheque worth Rs. 122,650 (£690) to the Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Ministry of Defence said Mr Kulasekara "has shown his true patriotism towards [his] motherland by conducting such events for the benefit of war heroes, and made a good example working in his capacity hand in hand with other Sri Lankan expatriates to make contributions to the fund."
