Expatriate Healthcare News: Quarter of Canada's population 'will be expats' by 2031

One in four people living in Canada by 2031 are likely to be expatriates, a report has predicted.
Research by Statistics Canada suggests that between 25 per cent and 28 per cent of the population could be foreign born as the country's largest cities will see a growing number of expatriates settling down in the next 20 years.
Almost a third (between 29 and 32 per cent) will be 'visible minorities'; "persons, other than aboriginal peoples, who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in colour," the statistics agency said.
The population boom is most likely to be seen in Canada's three largest metropolitan areas - Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. Almost three-quarters (71 per cent) of the country's visible minorities will live there in 2031, according to the report.
Last July the population of Canada was estimated by Statistics Canada at over 33.7 million people. In the second quarter of 2009, the population grew by 0.36 per cent, or 121,200 people, the organisation claimed. This was mostly due to net international migration, the agency said, which put the total number of expatriates settling in the country during that period at 84,800.
