Expatriate Healthcare News: Long-haul destinations 'attracting visitors'

Prospective expatriates considering relocating to Thailand can rest assured that the country is working hard to revive visitor arrivals in the aftermath of the recent political unrest.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand announced that tourist visa fees are to be waived until March 31st 2011, while hotels in the country have unveiled a range of discounts and value-added incentives to encourage travellers to visit Thailand.
Neil Alobaidi, commercial director for global tour operator Hayes & Jarvis, said a "catalogue of woes" has affected the long-haul holiday market this year, but Thailand is fighting back to overcome adversity.
"Fluctuating exchange rates, ash clouds, riots and airline strikes should have dampened demand, but aggressive pricing by hoteliers and airlines has resulted in eye-catching offers that have kept customers booking some of the hardest hit long-haul destinations," he noted.
Expatriates considering their holiday destination may be among the 65 per cent of travellers surveyed by the Holiday Lettings Travel Survey who see an overseas getaway as a top priority over other disposable income purchases.
