Expatriate Healthcare News: Kuwait health announcement welcomed

A Kuwaiti government announcement that expatriate children suffering from cancer would be exempt from paying medical treatment fees has been welcomed by expats and nationals alike.
The Ministry of Health announced the decision in a move that Kuwaitis and expats feel could help families who have already suffered because of the diagnosis, the Kuwait Times reported.
Residents in the country usually receive free medical treatment at government clinics and hospitals, but non-Kuwaitis are required to pay nominal fees amounting to KD 50 (£118), in addition to their annual expatriate health insurance, the news provider said.
However, the move has prompted some people to demand the exemption be extended to other serious illnesses, such as those affecting expatriates over 60 or people with terminal conditions.
"If the real intention was on humanitarian grounds, I think [the government] should look further," one expat told the newspaper.
"There are patients who need government assistance and I hope they would look into that as well," the expatriate added.
