Expatriate Healthcare News: Israeli expats 'to be encouraged to return with tax benefits'

The Israeli government has approved plans to encourage some 15,000 expatriates to return from abroad.
A marketing plan aimed at attracted back thousands of Israeli expatriates is part of proposals that received backing on Sunday (May 16th). A package of tax, education and healthcare plans for expats who have lived abroad for at least five years will be implemented, Haaretz reported.
Sofa Landver, head of the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption, told the news provider: "Israel has and always will be the home for every Jew, and certainly for every Israeli," and said that bringing home expatriates was an important task.
Under the new plans, returning expats will be offered similar tax benefits to those provided for new immigrants, including tax breaks on import and income taxes and the purchase of a new car. They will also not be required to pay for healthcare insurance for the first six months of their return.
An estimated 750,000 Israeli expats live abroad, according to the country's Central Bureau of Statistics.
