Expatriate Healthcare News: Haitian minister attempts to reverse expatriate brain drain

Expatriates who left Haiti to find work abroad are being encouraged to return to the country in order to help with its reconstruction programme.
The Caribbean nation was devastated by an earthquake in January this year which killed tens of thousands of people and left countless others without homes, businesses or vital services.
Edwin Paraison, minister for Haitians abroad, visited Paris today (May 13th) as part of a European tour to promote the government's plan to entice professionals back.
Housing, transportation and good salaries are being offered as incentives for expatriates.
"We are asking skilled Haitians living abroad to return because we need to fill the void in the professional sector," the minister said.
"We were touched by their massive, spontaneous and generous reaction after the earthquake, but we have to focus on long-term efforts as we move ahead."
Mr Paraison said the government is launching a public awareness campaign to reassure Haitians who had stayed in the country that they are not being displaced by returning expatriates.
The earthquake struck the Caribbean nation on January 12th and killed an estimated 230,000 people.
