Expatriate Healthcare News: Expats moving to Moscow 'should expect adventure'

Expatriates considering a move to Moscow should expect to fend for themselves, a travel company has said.
Catrionna Grant, communications coordinator for Tucan Travel, explained that part of the Russian capital's charm is that expats are not going to be "spoon-fed" information and will need to find out for themselves.
"You are expected to adapt to the city, not the other way around, but this is part of its tremendous appeal to adventure-seeking travellers because you really do have to try to get under the skin of the city and you will learn to appreciate its character from the inside out," she added.
Eating out can be cheap if expatriates head to authentic "Soviet-style canteens" instead of relying on Western restaurant brands, and Moscow boasts architecture, museums and landmarks aplenty for expats wanting to immerse themselves in Russian history and culture.
Armed with a good phrase book and a willingness to smile and use plenty of hand gestures, expatriates should find themselves able to communicate with Moscow citizens, Ms Grant added, and this will lead to "a tremendous sense of achievement" when it results in success.
