Expatriate Healthcare News: Expats in Shanghai 'not subjected to travel restrictions'

Expatriates living in Shanghai have been assured by police that no travel restrictions will be placed on foreigners, the China Daily has reported.
The police issued a statement after rumours circulated on an expatriate socialising website that foreigners would be subject to curfews during the upcoming Shanghai Expo 2010.
The newspaper reported that last Friday the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Public Security issued a statement saying: "Foreigners are only required to carry their passport with them at all times and to register their place of residence at their local police station, as stated in the rules for the implementation of the law of the People's Republic of China on the control of the entry and exit of aliens.
"No other additional requirements have been put in place by the police," the statement added.
The original article posted on the expatriate community website said foreigners would have to return to their residence every night before 11pm or contact a local police station if they are staying elsewhere after the curfew, the paper said.
Expatriates travelling outside Shanghai would also require a clearance letter from their employer, the article apparently stated.
But the police refuted the claims, saying the online rumours were "false and groundless", the newspaper said.
