Expatriate Healthcare News: Expats in China can extend driving licence

Expatriates living in China who hold a local driving licence will be able to extend their permit to a long-term ten-year licence, the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau has announced.
All expats in the country must hold a Chinese driving licence before they get behind the wheel.
Drivers who have obtained their licence after May 1st 2004 and hold fewer than 12 points can take their permit to any city department of motor vehicles to have it extended, Global Times reported.
In order to get a Chinese driving licence, applicants should take their passport or residence permit, a health certificate, their home country's driving licence and a Chinese translation of it, the newspaper advised.
The licence is usually renewed every six years. However, "foreigners who live in China can now also enjoy the ten-year-validity driving licence if they meet requirements", said Shen Yuhui of the bureau.
Drivers with more than 12 penalty points can get a six-year licence, the news provider maintained.
