Expatriate Healthcare News: Expats 'could check they are registered to vote in election'

With a British general election due to take place before June, expatriates could check to ensure they are registered to vote.
Those who left the UK less than 15 years ago and were eligible to vote in the last general election can find out more online on how to have their say.
Expats can indicate whether they wish to cast their vote through the post or nominate someone living in Britain to vote for them by proxy.
Around 2.5 million expats around the world are eligible to vote in the UK parliamentary election, yet last September, fewer than 13,000 were on an electoral register, according to figures released by the Electoral Commission.
Commission chair Jenny Watson said: "British citizens living abroad come from a wide variety of backgrounds, but we know that most maintain strong links with the UK.
"It is easier than ever before for British citizens abroad to keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues back home and many will also want to have their say in elections."
Expats who are living overseas can find out whether they are eligible to vote online. The deadline for registering to vote is at 5pm 11 working days before the general election.
