Expatriate Healthcare News: Expat dies in airport

An expatriate who was travelling home to receive life-saving medical treatment has died at Bahrain International Airport.
Shakkiayalath Kunhammed, 54 and originally from India, was on his way to Kozhikode in Kerala for expat healthcare following a brain haemorrhage, Gulf Daily News reported.
It is not known whether Mr Kunhammed had expatriate health insurance when he died, but the Indian Community Relief Fund is now making preparations to repatriate his body.
The minibus driver had lived and worked in Bahrain for 17 years, moving there after being employed in Saudi Arabia for the previous 16 years.
He had been admitted to BDF Hospital in July after a passer-by saw him collapse while he was parking his vehicle. The expatriate then spent a week in intensive care before he was well enough to speak.
Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam acting president Aseel Abdulrahman told Gulf Daily News: "He was in ICU for a week and then transferred to the general ward and was recovering very slowly.
"Gradually, he started nodding his head and talking to family members, but was not in a condition to travel."
The expat's wife and son are living in India.
A brain haemorrhage is a type of stroke caused by a burst artery, which results in bleeding and can kill brain cells.
